In Delft, in the 17th century, 32 factories produced Delft earthenware, including factory "de Paauw". These factories were often located in beer breweries that had ceased production.
In the nineteenth century, due to the competition from other factories and the lack of innovations, the culmination of Dutch Delftware had come to an end.
Nowadays only a few companies produce the completely hand-painted traditional Delft blue in Delft. One of these companies is PAAUW 1651. PAAUW 1651, 'the delft blue factory' produces and exclusively entirely hand-painted Delft earthenware.
