Sylvain Tegroeg designs fun, trendy products for Heinen Delfts Blauw. The French illustrator gets his inspiration from the many bicycles that speed all over the Netherlands. This is a fascinating sight, especially in the eyes of foreign visitors. That is why the creative Frenchman combines two traditional Dutch elements: Delft blue and bicycles. The two come together in his collection De Blauwe Fiets.
De Blauwe Fiets vases
Sylvain Tegroeg is a Frenchman who lives and works in Amsterdam. He is a multidisciplinary designer dedicated to both product design and illustrations. Both specialisms come together in the vase series De Blauwe Fiets. “With these vases I wanted to add something new to the Heinen Delfts Blauw collection. My idea was to bring the Delft blue to the here and now but also keeping the tradition alive, in terms of color combinations and in terms of the artisanal manufacturing process.”
Tea cups and coffee mugs
The successful vase collection has been expanded with teacups and coffee mugs. His minimalist bicycle is a popular symbol for the Netherlands. "Every tourist is amazed by the enormous number of bicycles. That is really something that stays with them. I have chosen a sketchy illustration form, because it gives the vases a fresh and modern look." At first glance it looks like a swarm of bikes, but the longer you look, the more different models you see. From the traditional granny bike to a fully loaded cargo bike.
