A Delft blue wall plate made of ceramic. The wall plate is decorated with a dodo staring hopefully ahead among the branches of its tropical island of Mauritius. This cheerful bird traveled the world as a curiosity on 17th-century trading ships. Artist Pepijn van den Nieuwendijk has breathed new life into this peculiar bird in the form of De Blauwe Dodo (The Blue Dodo). In his eyes, it is a time traveler, an adventurous loner traveling around the world. Father Jaap and son Jorrit Heinen are also a bit like unusual birds in the world of ceramics, taking the world by storm in their own unique way. With great passion and a rebellious spirit, they make traditional Delft blue pottery, but with a modern twist, ensuring that this special craft does not die out but remains alive for future generations.
