Heinen Delfts Blauw

Wabi sabi originates in Japan and stands for an imperfect and pure lifestyle. In a time where people are constantly trying to create the perfect picture for social media, Wabi sabi is a refreshing new lifestyle trend. Real, pure, sustainable and honest materials that mix and match but don't necessarily belong together. Imperfection is keyword.

This trend matches with the thoughts of designer Debbie Wijskamp, she created the tableware 'Blauw Bloesem' for Heinen Delfts Blauw. Debbie thinks that there is a lot of beauty hidden in the transient and the imperfection, something she made visible in 'Blauw Bloesem'. "I work a lot with natural materials and textures", she explains. "Blauw Bloesem is inspired by century old earthenware and dug up porcelain. I love it when you can see and feel the history of an old pocelain plate or cup, that it has been used many times before. It is special to see what time does with an item. I love the texture of porcelain that has been hidden in the soil for so long. It is like holding a rough stone in your hands, instead of polished porcelain."
"The beauty of the transient and the imperfection" - Debbie Wijskamp

Wabi Sabi and 'Blauw Bloesem' go hand in hand together and match with the popular lifestyle trends Natural Scandinavia, Industrial Lofts and the Urban Jungle. "Blauw Bloesem has classical round shapes and soft linings. This highlights the textures and the Delft blue decoration", says Debbie. While the inside of the tableware is smoothly polished and decorated with fine Delft blue blossom, the outside is rough, pure and crumbled. "This contrast created a beautiful result of perfection and imperfection at the same time." The high quality, handmade porcelain tableware is the embodiment of the Wabi Sabi lifestyle and home decor trend of 2020.
