Majolica
Our New Majolica Collection: A Breezy Revival of Dutch Tableware
Our latest tableware collection, Majolica, brings a fresh, breezy spirit to the Dutch dining table. Inspired by centuries-old majolica traditions from the Mediterranean region and the historical development of Delftware, this collection combines the best of two worlds: the laid-back charm of Southern Europe and the refined craftsmanship of Delft's master potters. Painted with broad, freehand brushstrokes, light in tone and warm in character, this tableware is designed for tables where laughter is shared, stories are told, and meals are truly enjoyed.
The Origins of Majolica
Majolica originally hails from Southern Europe, where potters as early as the late Middle Ages decorated their wares playfully on a white tin-glazed surface. Through Spain and Italy, the technique made its way to the Netherlands in the 16th century. Skilled Italian artisans began working in Delft, sharing their knowledge with local potters. Glaze recipes and brush techniques were exchanged and gradually refined. This exchange gave rise to Delft majolica, a unique transitional style painted in loose blue-on-white brushwork. A clear artistic stepping stone towards what would become the world-renowned Delft blue.
Our Majolica collection brings this forgotten ancestor back into the spotlight. While traditional Delftware is known for its precision and symmetry, our Majolica embraces spontaneity and freedom. The decorations are playfully hand-painted, swirling effortlessly across plates, bowls, and cups. Each piece has its own unique personality, and it’s those small imperfections that give the collection its soul. The result is a sunny lightness that instantly brightens the Dutch dining table.
Dutch with Warmth
Despite the subtle Southern influences, the collection still feels familiar—and distinctly Dutch. That’s thanks to the recognizable Delft blue hues, classic old-Dutch shapes like scallops and studded edges, and the unmistakable sense of craftsmanship that runs through every item. This is tableware made for leisurely dining, without watching the clock. Long garden lunches, spontaneous drinks with friends, or slow Sunday breakfasts with the family. Majolica makes every meal feel like a small celebration.
With this collection, Majolica revives a forgotten chapter of Dutch ceramic history. An ode to the creative freedom of the past, brought to life for today’s table.
