Vase Milk Churn The Heritage Collection - Delft Chintz - Ceramic - 20,5 cm

A Delft blue milk churn vase made of ceramic. The milk churn vase is decorated with lush Delft blue flowers, a dark blue lace pattern, and oxblood red stripes from traditional Dutch costume. Chintz was the fashion of the 17th century and the fabric was extremely popular for use in traditional costumes. The sturdy, beautiful fabric was brought back from Asia by early traders, as were shipments of blue-on-white porcelain, on which Delft blue is based. In his younger years, Jaap Heinen often painted in the fishing harbor, where he painted porcelain vases and wall plates, but on request he also painted pieces of traditional costume with elegant flowers resembling the chintz patterns.
