Let yourself be carried away into the wonderful world of illustrator Redmer Hoekstra. For Heinen Delfts Blauw, this humorous and philosophical artist created a unique series of decorative wall plates in which surreal animals, Delft blue elements and absurd situations come together. This set consists of three wall plates featuring three remarkable characters: a trudging elephant, an overloaded pelican and a lazy pig being carried around by a herd of zebras.
The dreamy illustrations are unmistakably Redmer Hoekstra. His animals find themselves in unexpected situations where nothing seems quite as it should. An elephant wrapped in a Delft blue tulip vase, giraffes carefully following a map and route, a pelican with a beak full of mice’s ears, and a stack of zebras balancing on top of one another like Delft blue soup bowls. The longer you look, the more details you discover and the more room there is for your own interpretation.
For Redmer, each illustration began with a Delft blue element from the Heinen Delfts Blauw collection. Around these elements, he created his own surreal world, giving each animal its own role and character. The physical discomfort experienced by his main characters is a recurring theme in his work and an important source of his humour.
