Let yourself be carried away into the wonderful world of illustrator Redmer Hoekstra. For Heinen Delfts Blauw, this humorous and philosophical artist created a unique series of decorative wall plates in which surreal animals, Delft blue elements and absurd situations come together. This set consists of three wall plates featuring three remarkable characters: a whale travelling across land in a teapot, a nesting duck surrounded by cheeky owls, and a group of peculiar birds rowing through a nautilus shell on their way to a high tea.
The dreamy illustrations are unmistakably Redmer Hoekstra. His animals find themselves in unexpected situations where nothing seems quite as it should. A whale that clearly does not fit inside its teapot, yet uses it as a means of transport. A duck trying to quietly sit on her eggs while curious owls march around her. And a group of birds crammed together inside a nautilus shell, their oars continuing to turn even though they are travelling across dry land. The longer you look, the more details you discover and the more room there is for your own interpretation.
For Redmer, each illustration began with a Delft blue element from the Heinen Delfts Blauw collection. Around these elements, he created his own surreal world, giving each animal its own role and character. The physical discomfort experienced by his main characters is a recurring theme in his work and an important source of his humour.
