The story behind your personalised Delft Blue

Do you want a personalised Delft Blue tile or vase? In this blog, we explain exactly what happens between your request and the moment you receive your hand-painted Delft Blue product.
Step 1

Your idea is our starting point

In our webshop, you can easily personalise a wide range of custom products. Think of names, dates, or a short message. You can order these quickly and conveniently online.

Do you have something special in mind or a specific request? Send us your enquiry, idea, a sketch, or a photo. We are happy to think along with you. Together we will explore the possibilities and bring your idea to life.
Step 2

Custom design

Once we have a clear understanding of your wishes, our designers get to work. Sometimes the design is first hand-drawn by our pottery painters, and other times your idea is developed digitally right away.

You will receive a digital design by email, a visual translation of your idea. At this stage there is still room for feedback or minor adjustments.
Step 3

The craftsmanship begins

After your approval, the design goes to the pottery painter. First, she transfers the design onto the bare porcelain using pencil or charcoal. Then the painting begins with fine brushes made of animal hair and homemade black cobalt oxide paint.

Only after firing in the kiln does this paint reveal its deep Delft blue hue. Each brushstroke must be perfect in one go; corrections are not possible. This requires a great deal of time, patience, and craftsmanship.
Step 4

Glazing & firing

Once the painting is finished, it goes to our ceramics specialist. The personalised piece is glazed and then fired in the kiln at 1200 degrees Celsius.

The firing of your Delft Blue design takes time. This is because porcelain is very fragile and must be heated and cooled slowly. If it heats up or cools down too quickly, the porcelain can crack or hairline cracks can appear in the glaze. Also, if the firing process is too long or too hot, the paint can change color, for example into an unwanted purple shade. That is why we ensure the firing process is carried out precisely to guarantee the quality and appearance of your Delft Blue artwork.
Step 5

Unique, handcrafted, and entirely yours

What started as an idea is now tangible in front of you: your personalised Delft Blue porcelain, made with love, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. A unique, handcrafted work of art that you can cherish forever.

Each hand-painted product is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.

Why does it take 3 to 5 weeks?

The entire process takes on average 3 to 5 weeks. This is due to the manual steps: drying, painting, glazing, and firing. We handle your request with the utmost care and are happy to take the time required. In exceptional cases, it is possible to produce the product on an expedited basis.
