Maison&Objet 2018 Heinen Delfts Blauw

Heinen Delfts Blauw in Paris

Written by Martijn On

Heinen Delfts Blauw will be present from 19 to 23 January in hall 7 of the Parc des Expositions in Paris. Here we show three new sets of dinnerware, a series of lamps, a series of modern vases and a new large object made by Richard Hutten.

1.5 years ago the idea came to work on more contemporary expressions in Delft blue pottery, in addition to the regular (souvenir) collection of Delftware. With a typical Dutch product such as Delft blue earthenware, we needed of course also a Dutch top designer. That's how, we asked Richard Hutten to design an iconic object. “The best assignments are the ones I have never done before. It gives me a chance to do research and play with ideas. It was a real struggle to create this design. It was a fight between creating an interesting and logical image, technical possibilities, enough stability and unity versus diversity.”

Impressive, playful and conceptually revolutionary. The Delft blue artwork Stapel Blauw, created by Richard Hutten for Heinen Delfts Blauw, stands out because of its size (1,5 meter high) and bold design. It is constructed out of six loose objects (that can also be purchased individually) each with their own shape, mood and story. Together they form a stunning piece of modern design.

As a derivative of the ball vase, Richard also created a series called 'Nieuw Blauw'. This series consists of seven forms with a continuous line pattern. This series of vases is already for sale on our webshop.

To bring the Delft Blue closer to the Dutch, we started working with three designers who each designed their own crockery. The dinnerware is available from March 2018.

Sylvain Tegroeg has designed a number of new vases for us. The result: three beautiful shapes with an illustration of bicycles. Real Dutch design!

As art director, Jacob de Baan helped Heinen Delfts Blauw set up a new corporate identity and guided us in the project with all the designers. Jacob himself designed a lamp, 'Blu Halo'.
