Marblue

The Marblue collection is designed and made by Isa Lagendijk. The collection is a combination of two crafts; imitating marble and painting Delft blue. The technique of imitating marble comes from the Middle East and came to the Netherlands in the 19th century. With Delft blue paint and gold accents, she knows how to convert this very specific painting technique into beautiful products with a luxurious appearance.

“Normally, the marble imitation is applied with oil paint or acrylic paint on a wooden panel. As a pottery painter you naturally work on an earthenware surface, so I had to find out the technique of painting marble myself through trial and error. And it worked. It remains an unpredictable process every time and every implementation is different, which is what makes this technique so interesting and the designs unique.”
