Combining the eclectic interior trend

Everything is allowed. Really, everything is allowed. There is no right or wrong with the eclectic interior trend. Boundaries are there to be pushed, contrasts are there to clash with each other and between all these different movements an unexpected solidarity arises that reflects your personality in your interior. The great thing about the eclectic interior trend is that it never goes out of fashion and you really feel completely at home in it. The nice thing about this living trend is that it is not a dime a dozen. Are you tired of seeing steel doors, a herringbone floor and a velvet chair in every house you enter? That won't happen to you with an eclectic interior. Nice and unique and one-of-a-kind, just like you!

Art and kitsch

Beautiful works of art on the wall and special souvenirs on the cupboard, with the eclectic living style, only choose home accessories that mean something to you. So get rid of that poster from Ikea and hello to a painting made by your great-grandfather or a work of art that you once bought at an auction. It is also nice to put your children's schoolwork in a nice frame and hang it on the wall. Alternated with other creative wall decorations, such as wall plates or wall birds, a child's drawing suddenly takes on a completely new look. Place special souvenirs here and there that you brought back from a special trip. These could be wood carvings made on site by someone at a market, but a glass jar filled with shells from every beach you have been to is also a home decoration with meaning. Remove heirlooms with sentimental value from the attic and give them a proud place in your home and supplement your decor with beautiful finds from the thrift store or flea market. The only thing you need to be careful about is not to put too many trinkets or you run the risk of it looking messy, but if you're someone who likes a bit of chaos, why not!

Eclectic decorating: create clashing combinations!

Eclectic literally means "choosing the best". This means that with this living style you choose all the best elements from the existing living styles and mix them into a beautiful, unique whole. What's best? That's up to you because there's no accounting for taste. This is also something we have in mind with our Stapelgekte collection. The three-piece tulip vase has been a very popular vase for centuries. With its three separate parts that are stacked on top of each other and the various small spouts that protrude on all sides, the pyramid vase has a bit of an eccentric appearance. You can therefore opt for a very calm decor such as a completely white three-piece tulip vase, a beautiful white beauty, or you can be crazy and put together your own three-piece tulip vase. One that completely reflects your personality.

Eclectic vases as home accessories

Stacking madness is a collection from Heinen Delft Blue that consists of a stackable, three-piece tulip vase. With the different designs and colors you can stack more than five thousand unique combinations. This way you can put together your ideal vase that shows your personality. Choose a calm base, a quirky center and a vibrant top of the vase or go for a special vase with hand-painted elements in the same style for a calmer look. If you get tired of your Stapelgekte vase after a while, you can simply take it apart again and add new elements for a completely different look. This way you will always enjoy your ecclectic, three-part tulip vase.

Eclectic interior: do's and don'ts

You cannot make any mistakes with an eclectic interior. If you find it difficult to tie up all the loose ends so that there is some kind of coherence, then there are some things you should or should not do. We have listed a few for you to help you get started.

YES: Mix different types of materials together. Furry cushions on the sofa, rough wooden wall shelves, shiny porcelain wall plates and heavy metal doors. They can all be used interchangeably.

NO: Use all materials only once. To create a cohesive feeling, choose one choice of material that you use in at least three different places in the room.

YES: Also leave empty space between your home accessories. The eye always looks for a place of rest. Make sure there is some space between your home decorations every now and then.

NO: Don't put down everything you have. Choose a few favorite home accessories and display them. Put the rest in the storage room and switch them up every now and then so that you create a surprise.

YES: Before you start decorating, first determine where your largest pieces of furniture will be placed. This will guide the rest of your design and ensure clarity throughout.

NO: Don't just randomly place something everywhere. Provide a focal point, such as a wall in a striking color, a fireplace with a mantelpiece around it or a striking work of art. This is the point that immediately attracts attention when you enter the room. Then your gaze moves to the rest of the furnishings. Without one real eye-catcher you don't know where to look first and that creates unrest.

YES: Repeat the same shapes in different places for symmetry. If you have a round coffee table, place round cushions on the sofa or hang round wall plates on the wall. Even though they have different colors and textures, the round shape still provides visual cohesion.

NO: Avoid different color tones on the walls in the same room. Choose one bold color that stands out and decorate the rest of the room with fun home decorations.

Eclectic design as an interior trend

We now call the eclectic interior a living trend, but actually, like most things, it has been around for a very long time. When industrialization started, it became popular to add more artistic home accessories to the interior, a bit of a counter-movement because a lot of work was taken over by machines. A lot of workers lost their jobs as a result and so the Arts & Crafts movement was born. Interior styles were now mixed, so that traditional and modern suddenly went together. The goal was to create a unique interior. The moment this became more widely accepted as an interior trend, the eclectic interior emerged. It was also extremely popular among the wealthier population, who loved to show off their wealth by combining unique pieces of furniture with decorations from different countries and cultures. This automatically created an eclectic living trend in which the best of different worlds literally come together. Think of silk tapestries from Asia, wood carvings from Africa, sleek furniture from Germany and Delft blue porcelain from the Netherlands. The housing trend from the richer layer of society soon seeped through to the middle bracket, who mainly combine unique heirlooms and special finds from car boot sales with modern living trends.

An eclectic home

Have you gained enough inspiration and tips to integrate the eclectic living style at home? Then take out your most beautiful, unique, special home decorations and supplement them with beautiful home decorations from our latest collections. This way you mix your beloved old things with brand new and modern accessories for a completely new interior. If you find it difficult to figure out where to start introducing the eclectic living style, first choose a few main items that should absolutely not be missing in your home. These objects will guide the rest of your design. Add a few new home accessories in a contrasting style or color and finally choose a beautiful Stapelgekte vase! The nice thing about the Stapelgekte vase is that it consists of three different parts that you choose one by one. So you can choose a matching element for all the colors or patterns you have at home, so that the Stapelgekte vase really brings together all the elements of your interior into one whole.

Iconic bust vase Girl with a Pearl Earring

The Girl with a Pearl Earring steps out of her painting and takes on three-dimensional forms. She no longer feels like always showing her best side, but wants to emphasize that she has many sides. Just like any other human being. No longer a flat painting, but a vase in the form of a bust that has depth and can be admired from all sides.
