Drink espresso like a real barista with the espresso cups from Heinen Delfts Blauw. These nice espresso cups are made of beautiful porcelain and available in different styles and designs. With a high-quality, beautiful espresso cup, that first shot of coffee of the day tastes even better.

Espresso cups for the best coffee

For many people it has become a regular morning ritual. Get up, make coffee and wake up. Whether you drink coffee or not, everyone agrees that the smell of freshly ground espresso smells incredibly good and really belongs in the kitchen. Coffee from freshly ground coffee beans is of course the tastiest, but not everyone has the time or patience for that. No matter how you make your coffee, you will immediately recognize good espresso. Espresso is a small cup of coffee that most resembles a shot of coffee. That's why this intense coffee also has its own mug: the espresso cup. The miniature coffee is made by pressing water through the ground coffee under high pressure. This creates a very concentrated coffee with an intense taste experience. The thick golden layer floating on top of the coffee shows whether the espresso is of good quality. If the golden brown layer is completely connected and floats nice and thick on top, you have a good espresso. You can also use this espresso as a basis for a delicious cappuccino.

Porcelain espresso cups

Such a small sip of very concentrated coffee requires its own cup. This is how the espresso cup was created. It has now become a whole world in itself, with espresso cups in all shapes, sizes, colors and designs and there are even real collectors of espresso cups. The small splash of strong coffee looks a bit lost in a regular coffee mug, but in an espresso cup the mug is well filled and the espresso is beautifully presented. In addition to the presentation of the espresso, it is of course mainly about the taste experience. In a sturdy porcelain espresso cup, the small shot of espresso stays hot longer because porcelain is known for its insulating properties. The hotter the espresso, the better it tastes. If you really want to serve your espresso like a barista, heat the espresso cup in advance and add a saucer, a spoon and a bowl of sugar.

Delft blue espresso cups

At Heinen Delfts Blauw we love coffee, in all variations. From espresso to a creamy latte machiatto and everything in between. That is why you will also find nice espresso cups in our tableware collections. Most of our espresso cups are made in Delft blue, except for the Avondbloem collection. This espresso cup is made of white porcelain, printed with gray-black tones and gold accents. We chose this color for the espresso cup because these are the shades of Delft blue paint before it goes into the oven. The paint consists of cobalt oxide, which most resembles liquid charcoal and only when the paint comes into contact with glaze and then goes into the hot oven does the color change from black to the well-known Delft blue. The espresso cup does have the traditional Delft blue decorations around the cup. The straight-shaped handle gives the porcelain espresso cup a somewhat sturdy look.

Espresso cups by Janny van der Heijden

Our espresso cups from the Sharing Moments tableware collection, designed in collaboration with Janny van der Heijden, are also extremely popular. As always, the tableware must meet the high standards of kitchen queen Janny, with the result that the espresso cups look beautiful, are of high quality and are also functional in use. The porcelain espresso cups fit very comfortably in the palm of your hand, the thick porcelain provides good insulation and thanks to the different sides and the handle, the espresso cup is convenient to drink from. For her collection she has made espresso cups with different designs: Dachshund Nhaan and cheeky monkeys.

Espresso cups by Romy Kühne

Another tableware collection that we are very proud of is the Blauw Vouw collection. This porcelain tableware was designed by the Dutch designer Romy Kühne for Heinen Delfts Blauw. The espresso cup is a modern variant of the traditional Delft blue tableware. This collection connects the ceramic traditions of China and the Netherlands. The espresso cup combines the Asian folding art of Origami and Dutch Delft blue. For example, the bottom of the espresso cup is made by making folds in the porcelain, which Romy designed with paper molds. The mug itself is decorated with Delft blue cherry blossoms, which is also a reference to Asia. The espresso cup has a rounded belly and no handle, so it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The folds in the porcelain provide grip.

Espresso cups by Debbie Wijskamp

The espresso cups from the Blauw Bloesem collection are also very popular. The collection was created by designer Debbie Wijskamp for Heinen Delfts Blauw. The designer espresso cups are made of porcelain and do not have an ear. The outside of the espresso cups have a structure that gives the mug a good grip, so that it fits comfortably in the hand. Thanks to the thick porcelain wall of the espresso cup, the coffee stays warm for longer. When designing the designer espresso cups, designer Debbie Wijskamp was inspired by excavated earthenware, which has a robust appearance on the outside, while the inside of the cup consists of glossy white porcelain. The Delft blue decoration is subtly placed on the inside of the espresso cup. A beautiful mug for someone looking for a designer espresso cup.

Italian espresso cups

Espresso is an Italian invention, even though there isn't a coffee bean field in all of Italy. They know better than anyone how to best serve this special hot drink. Italian espresso cups must therefore always meet a few important characteristics. The Italian espresso cups are always made of high-quality porcelain. The thickness of the wall of the espresso cup is extremely important to get a good cream layer on the espresso, so the wall must be at least 5 mm thick. Double-walled espresso cups or porcelain espresso cups retain heat better, so that the espresso does not cool down too quickly. This is also why espresso cups have a relatively small opening, a small diameter of the cup. If the espresso cup is too wide at the top, the espresso will cool faster. In addition to the thick porcelain and the narrow opening, it is important that Italian espresso cups have a round bottom on the inside. This ensures that the coffee slides gently into the espresso cup, so to speak, so that the cream layer is not broken. To top it all off, an Italian espresso cup always comes with a matching saucer.

Espresso cups for baristas

When you ask for a cup of coffee in Italy, you will automatically be served an espresso. In the Netherlands we are not used to that and we specifically ask for espresso, coffee or cappuccino. While a regular coffee requires a different preparation process than an espresso, a cappuccino or a latte macchiato is not that different from an espresso. Actually, these popular coffees all start with a good espresso. Work like a real barista at home and make a delicious coffee for yourself and your guests. First of all, heat your espresso cup or cappuccino mug by briefly filling it with hot water and letting it stand for a few minutes before making coffee. Then press hot water at high pressure through the freshly ground coffee powder. Let the espresso flow gently into your preheated espresso cup or cappuccino mug. The high quality of the espresso cup is now even more important, because hot milk must also be added and the coffee must therefore remain hot in the meantime. Then slowly and smoothly add the warm milk and finally the whipped milk foam. A good ratio is approximately one part espresso, one part hot milk and one part milk foam.
