Flower arrangement tips for large vases

Written by Annette O'Shea On

Are you completely enthusiastic about your brand new, eye-catching large vase, but then you notice that your bunch of tulips completely dissapear in the large vase. A large vase requires a different way of arranging flowers. We have collected the best home, garden and kitchen tips from professionals in the flower industry and from ordinary creatives so that you can fill our largest and most beautiful flower vases with a beautiful bouquet yourself.

1. Aluminium foil

The first tip is aluminum foil. Make a not too hard ball from a wad of aluminum foil and put it at the bottom of your large flower vase. Then fill the vase with water and insert the flower stems into the vase one by one. Stick the longer branches between or along the aluminum foil plug, and let the flowers with shorter stems rest on the aluminum so that they do not sink further down.

2. Glass pebbles

Instead of aluminum foil, you can also use glass pebbles to fill up the large vase. Carefully fill the vase with the glass pebbles, then fill it with water and carefully insert the flower stems. The glass stones make the vase heavier, making it extra sturdy on the table and they are also ideal if you want to use dried flowers or silk fake flowers.

3. Transparent adhesive tape

Do the flower stems have the right length for your large hand-painted vase, but is the opening of the vase so wide that the flowers do not remain nicely distributed? Then take a roll of clear tape and cut several strips. Stick the strips of tape in rows next to each other and on top of each other to create a grid of small squares. Carefully stick the tape to the edge of the large vase. Now you can divide the flowers nicely over the small squares and they will stay neatly in place.

4. Floral foam

Floral foam is regularly used by florists to keep a floral creation in place. Cut a block of floral foam to size to fit your large flower vase, cover the bottom and sides of the floral foam with foil or plastic and place it in the bottom of your vase. Fill the vase with water and then put your flowers in it. This also gives the flowers with a shorter stem enough support to protrude their heads above the vase.

5. Cross technique

The crossing technique is a nice way of flower arranging when you mainly use a lot of flowers or branches with long stems, ideal for a tall vase. Start with the largest stem you have and place it diagonally against the bottom of the vase. Then do this in mirror image with the next stem. Turn the vase a quarter turn and repeat the pattern with two more flower stems or branches. Repeat this until all your flowers are in the vase and a beautiful frame of flowers is created. In this way, the stems not only have support on the edge of the vase, but also on each other.

6. Pick large flowers

Now that you have a large vase, look at larger flowers. Sunflowers and lilies are the best known and most popular large flowers for large vases, but you can also find other large flowers at a good florist. Amaryllis, blossom branches and allium are also wonderful options for flower arranging in a large vase. Alternate the flowers with long stems with large leaves to nicely fill the bottom layer of the bouquet. Can't figure it out yourself? Then take your large vase to the florist and ask them to put a beautiful bouquet in it for you.

Arranging flowers with ease

Would you like to put a true sea of flowers on the table, but do you find a large vase too challenging to work with? Then choose a three-piece tulip vase. The large vase has three different layers, each with its own water reservoir. Thanks to the different spouts, flower arranging is very easy. Divide the smaller flowers over the highest part and place the heavier flowers at the bottom. And your column of flowers is ready! With our Stapelgekte collection you can even put together your three-piece tulip vase yourself based on color and pattern.
